Photography 101

Gave myself a crash course from a link I had pinned on Pinterest.  Thanks to Aimee for explaining how to use my DSLR in an easy way!  Here's where she starts her photography series.  If any of you photography ladies have some advice or more tips (Jill? Colleen?), please let me know!  I need to be ready to take some good pics of the family at the beach, in particular the giant family photo with about 34 people!  Yikes!

Her favorite one of herself :)

Mama's favorite!

Cute girls!  Gotta love the heavy brush in the background :-/

This was one of my opportunities to say YES today, when he wanted to pour juice in a cup and put a knife in it to make a popsicle.  At first I said no, but then, why not?

My hardest subject.  Would not stop moving or talking.

About 10 minutes outside and then the scorching heat got to us all!

Those look great Blair! I know you said Thomas was the toughest, but I love the one on his trike - the light in his eyes is great! I need to do the same with our DSLR. I started learning but I fizzled out!

I love my rebel! (though it's an xsi not the newer one like yours. Can you say jealous? I sure can!) but I found that once youve got the basics of like aperture etc it's pretty easy with those huge screens to read off of! I learned my basics working for a local photography studio and translated it to my camera which is much more user friendly :) I also use a very basic version of photoshop that I scored free from a photography class (I can pass it on if you want) but it works great for just fixing lighting.

These are fantastic, Blair! Your children are so beautiful and these photos really capture their beauty and personality. I don't have any advice to give you except to keep shooting! It gives me such pleasure to see someone else excited about something I am passionate about. I'm so glad you finally have a good camera that works!

Enjoy your vacation at the beach. We just got back from our family vacation at Port Aransas last week. It is so gorgeous down there. I know it's really hard for you to be so far away from friends and family, but you sure are living in a beautiful part of Texas. I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures of your vacation!

You have a good eye for composition. That's half the battle. I'd get a decent photo-editing program and do some simple things to make the photos more vibrant. I'd up the contrast and saturation a little.

So beautiful. You are doing a great job with the photos. I can't believe how grown up the boys are looking. Wow, they really do grow up way too fast!
